A Temporary Residence Waiver (TRW) is a formal application submitted to the Department of Home Affairs (under Section 31(2)(c) of the South African Immigration Act) requesting the Minister to waive or exempt a foreign national from a specific requirement needed for a Temporary Residence Visa.
When applying for temporary residence (such as a work, study, business, or relative visa), the law mandates a specific checklist of documents and conditions. If an applicant cannot meet a particular requirement—but has a strong, legitimate reason—they can apply for a TRW waiver to bypass that specific rule without having their visa rejected.
